in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and
continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18Amplified Bible (AMP) As I ponder 2018, all the things I would like to accomplish and the tumultuous increase of daily task already consuming my schedule, I am reminded to be thankful right here and right now. It is so easy to get lost in praising God for things He will do in the future, relishing in the things He has done in the past and forget to be thankful in present. During the close of 2017, my goal was to receive all that God wanted to provide. This morning, God reminded me of the importance of having a Spirit of Thankfulness. As I was reading I Thessalonians 5:18, I began to understand the importance of having a Spirit of Thankfulness. Thankfulness can be described in terms of a feeling we may get at any given time, situation, or circumstance. But when you are thankful in every situation, time, or circumstance it becomes a quality you possess and part of your livelihood. It’s as if you do not leave home without it. A Spirit of Thankfulness is more than a feeling you get every now and then. It becomes a part of who you are. Thankfulness is a close cousin of gratefulness. They spend so much quality time together they began to resemble each other. Some even consider them to be identical as if they were twins. So, imagine you give someone a gift one day. The gift receiver takes the gift and begins to complain to you, the giver. They are ungrateful or unthankful for the gift they have received. There are always going to be negative things we can focus on in every situation or circumstance which could lead us to feeling unthankful or ungrateful causing us to miss out on the present hand of God moving in our lives. I would like to encourage you to see your present moment or situation as a gift in time from God. See it as an opportunity to thank God for His gift of time. You may say, well this time is prolonged and feels more like a season. My response is to thank God for the season. When we see time as a gift from God, we can begin to be thankful no matter the situation or circumstance. The truth is, we serve a mighty God who has authority over time but chooses to work in time. So, every moment is a time God can and will work. Be thankful in everything, no matter the circumstance or situation because God is working on your behalf. Time is a gift He gives to you and I. Let’s choose to be thankful for the gift of time, in every situation and every circumstance because God is working on our behalf.
